In the journey of recovery, many steps lead us through ups and downs. Step Two of Celebrate Recovery states: "We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity." This step opens the door to hope and faith in something larger than ourselves. In Celebrate Recovery, this realization transforms our journey, moving us from despair to optimism.
Embracing a greater power cultivates the belief that a better future is possible, helps navigate the challenges, and ultimately restores our sense of sanity. Jesus Christ offers us comfort and guidance, teaching us to trust in a plan greater than ourselves. In Him we find the strength and hope a brighter future!
Celebrate Recovery's Lesson 3 Acrostic: Hope
H - Higher Power
Our Higher Power has a name, JESUS CHRIST! Jesus desires a hands-on, day-to-day, moment-by-moment relationship. He can do what we have never been able to do for ourselves.
Read Romans 11:36 and 2 Corinthians 12:9
O - Openness to change
We may continue to encounter hurts and trials that we are powerless to change throughout our lives. With God's help, we need to be open to allow those trials to change us. To make us better, not bitter.
Read Ephesians 4:23
P - Power to change
In the past, we have wanted to change but were unable to. We could not free ourselves from our hurts, hang-ups, or habits. In Principle 2, we come to believe that God's power can change us and our situation.
Read Philippians 4:13 and Psalm 25:5
E - Expect to change
Remember you are only at the second principle. Don't quit before the miracle happens! With God's help, the changes that you have longed for are just steps away.
Read Philippians 1:6 and Hebrews 11:1
Understanding Hope
Hope is more than just an emotion; it is a vital resource. It fuels our drive for healing and keeps us moving even when things feel bleak. Having hope can improve our mental health outcomes significantly. If we nurture hope, we are more likely to develop positive coping strategies and resistance after the setbacks of life.
When we accept Jesus as that power greater than ourselves, we create space for new possibilities. This step encourages us to drop our doubts and fears to allow hope to take root. Believing in the power of Christ offers us comfort and inspires us to take action in our recovery journey.
Christ's Role as our Higher Power
The hope we find in Jesus as our higher power is rooted in our belief that He provides us with unconditional love, guidance, and purpose. When we trust in His promises, we find the strength to overcome life's challenges as well as the assurance of eternal forgiveness and salvation. With the peace and resilience we find in Him, we are able to face our uncertainties with the sense of confidence and joy.
As we recognize the newfound power of Jesus, we become free. We are reminded that we are not alone facing our challenges. What a significant factor in helping us combat our former feelings of isolation that once accompanied our addictions and personal struggles! Dying to our old ways eliminates our desire to fall into the hands of relapse as in Christ we become a new creation.

Cultivating Hope in Our Daily Lives
Embracing hope is a daily commitment, not just a one-time event. Here are some actionable steps to help you nurture hope:
Practice Gratitude: Each day, take a moment to write down three things you are thankful for. This shift from a negative to a positive mindset can boost your emotional well-being.
Surround Yourself with Positivity: Engage with friends, family, and communities that uplift you. Their support can be a tremendous source of hope, showing you that you are not alone.
Incorporating these practices can lead to noticeable improvements in how we perceive our situations. Expressing gratitude will increase the joy in our lives reinforcing the benefits of this simple yet powerful exercise.
The Transformative Power of Community
Community plays a central role in sustaining hope. In sharing our struggles and victories, we find the feelings of unity. Celebrate Recovery creates a space where people unite to share their experiences and support one another.
In group meetings, stories of transformation inspire members to keep believing in the recovery process. When we hear the stories of those who have conquered a struggle, that power to change influences many others through their testimony. By listening to other's successes, we are also reminded that we are part of a supportive network dedicated to healing and recovery.
Recognizing Relapse as a Part of the Journey
Relapse is often viewed as failure, yet it can serve as a valuable moment for growth. Recovery is not linear; it is filled with ups and downs. When setbacks occur, tapping into our hope and belief in our higher power becomes vital.
Step Two encourages leaning on our support systems during a relapse. Instead of viewing setbacks as defeat, we can see them as opportunities to strengthen our resolve and enhance our community connections. Embracing these imperfect moments can increase our resilience and reaffirm our belief in recovery.
Moving Forward with Hope
As we continue through recovery, keeping hope alive is essential. Every step taken, challenge faced, and progress made affirms our capacity for change. Faith in Jesus as our greater power can help us navigate our most difficult times, reminding us that we are never truly alone.
Incorporating hope into our recovery is crucial. It goes beyond anticipating improvement; it’s about recognizing our inner strength to heal. With the backing of Jesus Christ and our community, we will thrive.
Embracing the Journey Ahead
Step Two of Celebrate Recovery highlights the significance of hope and faith. By embracing this belief, our lives will transform, and we will uncover new purposes.
Take some time today to reflect on your journey. Embrace hope, surround yourself with positivity, and acknowledge the presence of God's awesome power in your life. Recovery is not solely about reaching a destination; it’s about cherishing the peace and strength we gain along the way. You are worthy, you matter, and with hope and Jesus, your trail is clear.
